I remember when i worked at a oil change shop, a newer crown vic police car with the 2v 4.6 came in. underneath when droping his oil, i got to check out the totally alumininum driveshaft, it was a nice little part, it made me want one bad. they must use them for a reason, i would assume there is some hp to free up and a little weight to drop. my fidanza aluminum flywheel is like 12 lbs compared to the 20 sumthing the stockie was, and i noticed a difference in performance, does anyone here have one? did it help any? just curious!

Go on over to PST ( http://www.pstds.com/) and have them make you a carbon fiber driveshaft. It is stronger than stock or aluminum. I read an article a couple years back where a stock 01' GT manual picked up 12rwhp from the swap and dramaticly increased throttle responce.

It will run you up to $700 but far worth it for 3 reasons, increased horsepower to the ground, quicker revs, no need for a driveshaft loop at the races because if it drops it turns into soft fiber which again saves weight.

I highly recomend the extra $500 for the shaft.

If you got the shaft, the flywheel,UD pulleysand a Pro 5.0 ring and pinion you could see as much as 25-30rwhp extra to the ground. Oh, Pro 5.0 backcuts their ring gear to save something like 3.5lbs.

Freeing up the horsepower before making horsepower is a great way to start a project and you save more money at the pumps because the engine has to work less.

Best of Luck

Carbon Fiber Driveshafts

The finest driveshaft available anywhere. Each driveshaft is specifically designed by our Engineering Department to optimize the characteristics of Carbon Fiber required in your special application. Passed SFI test at 2800 Ft/lbs torque. Prices range from $500.00 to $950.00.
