Do you guys ever use 2nd gear? I just discovered it today haha. Was doing about 55 mph and wanted to pass someone so I decided to drop it into 2 and see what happened. Seemed alot quicker than just giving it more gas in D. I am going to have to use this more.

Dropping it into 2 at 55 is a horrible idea. I do it every once and a while at like 25 but never 55.

55 mph is way too high. Every once in a while I drop it down into2nd at 45 mph to hear the engine rev as I come to a stop. I don't do it higher than 45 mphthough. And I NEVER drop it in1st because if you are going over5 mph or soand drop it in 1st it jerks pretty hard.

Hmm. When I drop it into 2nd at around 50 mph, my RPM only goes up to about 4k. Sure, it jerks a bit but not anymore than when you floor it in D at that speed. Maybe because I have a 98?

i don't know if these guys don't know what they are talking about but my 2nd gear(auto) gets up to 70mph and shifts(i have 3:73's also), but 55 isn't too good anyway unless you are slowing down for a highway race or something.

Yea, I just tried it again. I am at 3500 rpms at 55 mph and right under 4k at 60 mph. This is just the equivilant of a downshift in a manual. Arent these 4 speed autos? So you are crusing at 55 mph which is basically 3rd gear because if you floor it, that last gear will kick in. So you are really only going from 3rd gear to 2nd as you would in a manual when you drop it into 2.

not exactly, atleast from what i believe. because since we have autos and can't control when we shift, usually the tranny goes into OD at like 55 or something which is it's 4th gear im pretty sure, so your going down 2 gears. correct me if i'm wrong anyone but i think thats what it is like but not fully sure

I shift all the time, i drive with my o/d off when not on a highway...keeps you in a higher rpm for more passing power when you need it...but worse for gas mileage.
