Whine/whirr is bad, but a 'whistle' is common with aftermarket gears.

Motive use to supply FRPP - Motives and FRPP are made with the same material. I had motive 3.90's and had no issues... loved em...

Proper installation is the key.

I just got my motive 4.10's instaled this weekend and so far no whine but every once in a while I hear a very slight whistle.
I don't have much to say yet on how they perform. I only have about 40 miles driving on them and I plan on going the entire 500
miles to break them in. I have a 99 gt vert 5 speed and I can't wait to drive her harder because there are times that the car seems to
want to go and I am having a hard time fighting the urge.

It's all in the installation. I have heard, however, that the Motive gears are a bit harder to install correctly than the Ford gears are. Who knows if that is true though.
Why would it be any harder than FRPP?
I have no idea, personally I think it is a load of BS, but that is what I heard. Motive did in fact supply Ford Racing with gears, and I believe they still do with some of them. Whatever gears you get, you just have to be sure they are installed correctly.
