RE: TKO 600/500 or T-56
i was in the same predicament, im goin with the T56, because of the gearing, i raced a guy with a TKO from a roll a couple of days ago, with 3:55 gears and a 500 i belive with a 347 stroker. he runs a 7.1 on the gas at track (1/8th mile). anyway he should have killed me, but he didnt. he ran out of gear at 65 or so. off the line it kills, but on the highway it sux worse than 4:30's. T56 all the way.

True..... But a 6spd will be better if you was going to go 4.10s or higher do you think? At least when you wanna get better MPG when driving around?

It depends on what your after... The viper has very wide gear ratios. Personally I want a T56 with viper gear ratios... The T56 from the 2000 cobra R or 03-04 cobra would be nice also, but it doesnt have as low of a 6th gear as the viper transmission. But the thing that annoys me is the overdrive on my tremec 3650 there shouldnt be one or a need for a gear between 4th and 5th. Because there is such a drop in rpm when you shift from 4th to 5th. The T56 from the cobras would get rid of that. But if you got the viper gear ratios. you would have a much better overdrive in 6th. But if you went with the TKO's you would have to choose between the race ratio or the overdrive one. Are you going to be doing alot of highway driving? If so i would recommend the overdrive. Or if your going to be doing alot of road racing or drag racing get the race model. Its going to suck when i get fast enough to have to shift from 4th to 5th in at the drag strip. Soon as that happens im going to have to get a new tranny because of the ****ty ratio
Check out this calculator and make your decision from that... Both can handle the power, the T56 is rated at 450ftlbs. but there are always people exceeding the torque limit of there transmissions. Unless your powershifting all the time i wouldnt worry about it. http://tchracing.com/tech/gearcalc.p...selectedgear=5

i tryed to figure that out myself....were not really buddies but i know him from the track. he sayed that he had a tko 500 and 3:55 gears. he had a 94 or 95 cobra 5.0 with a 347 stroker, 150 or 175 shot of nitrous. we raced from a a 45 50 and like 60ish. he put lengths on me from 45 in seconds. he had about two cars on me from 50 and on the 60mph race, i had about a half of a car. he wasnt on the gas, he said the first race he dropped 4th, the second he stayed in 5th and the third he stayed in 5th because he was already ridin like 3500 or so rpms. i myself was in aawww but that made me choose my decision and ill have my T56 in a month or so.
my car is also a daily driver so need somethin with a good overdrive, because of the highway drivin. i guess it all depends on your situation and what your lookin for. and ive also read that the Viper spec T56 can handle more power than i can afford. 800+ which is more than plenty.

no i should have worded it differently...hes out of his rpm band. he cant shift 4th because hell be redlining, so he has to stay in 5th, and still preceded to pull on me during the second race. he ran his car up to like 95 or so

hmm...that doesnt make sense how ur buddy runs out of gear at 65 with just 3.55.....explain that one to me
