mac gt40p headers fit in a 2000 mustang??
Im putting a motor with gt40p heads into a 2000 mustang. I need headers for it but the only ones I can find for those heads are the macs that are madefor the79 to 94 mustangs. My question is, will they fit in a 2000 mustang? any help is appreciated

If your swapping a 5.0L setup into your 2000 I don't think anyone on here will be able to help you find a set of headers.

If you are swaping out for a 5.0 then you will need a header made for 94-95 models. If you thing you are going to install GT-40 heads on your 4.6L then you need to put the wrenches down and close the hood becaue you have no idea what you are doing..lol GT-40 heads are for 5.0L not 4.6L They do not have the cms in the heads rather in the block! Old school style not interchangeable at all

Boys, boys, Despite what many may think, I didnt fall off the turnip truck yesterday. The p heads are going on a 351, which is going in a 2000 mustang. I should have made myself more clear.

Almost certianly you will need a custom set.
My only question is, if your going with a 351 why in the world go with a 2000? It will drop right into a fox with little effort and be lots faster (lots less weight) not to mention the expense of putting it in the 2000 with all the custom parts.

so what in your opinion would make the header fit questionable? what do you think it would hit ?( k member, steering box, firewall??)
Thanks

I have no concrete evidence, because as you stated this is almost never done, but I would think you are going to have some issues putting a set of headers built for a 94-95 in a 2000, espcially considering you are going with a engine that has a different deck height (302 vs 351).
Your best bet would probably be to find a set of headers that do not come welded together already, aka ones that have individual primarys, so you can adjust each of them around any areas that are problems.
What kind of powerlevel and money spent are you looking at? If you want something thats not seen everyday but not quite as difficult have you thought about a 5.4L swap? Its still not very common at all, but there is ALOT more aftermarket support for this swap and it will drop right in (at least compared to a 351). There are alot of good things to be said about modulars, espcially if you can save some money from doing an engine build and put it towards some sort of FI.

Your point is well taken, however the motor is already at the machine shop. No turning back now Seriously though, Im an old school guy. I have no desire to mess with FI and computers. Carbs and distributors to me are much cleaner, simpler, and enjoyable to work with.
The combo Im doing has been dynoed at 400hp. I really am not going to have a whole lot in the motor itself. It will come in right around $2500, with the total swap costing in the area of 5k. I really think the header issue is the last hurdle that I have to overcome. Im sure more stuff will come up as I go along, but I fell pretty confident that things will come out ok. I have been wrong many times before though.

One thing though, when talking about the carbs vs FI.. your comment was spoken like a man that hasn't messed much with the new FI stuff. It can be a major PITA to get going correctly if you don't have a good tuner locally, but once you do man is it sweet. you never have to mess with points, timing, or jetting/carb adjustments again (after the first tune) it just starts and drives.
Sounds like its going to be alot of fun though. You definatly need to post some (lots) of pictures up when you get her done. Is this mainly gonna be a street car, or more for the track?
