5th gear is still so long that you cannot reach top speed in that gear with your current power level.
The 4.10s will make it more agressive (5th) but you are still only talking about a 400-600 RPM difference between them and your stock 3.27s.
Lets put it this way. With 3.73s I am shifting OUT of 4th into 5th at 120 MPH, so its not really that big of a jump. With full boltons + cams I have a picture of my speedo going 163 MPH (via RPM reading and gear calculator as the speedo doesn't read that high) with another 1000 RPM to go... the car simply would not go any faster.

You don't have the power or the aerodynamics to worry about hitting the top end of the final gear. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Ah. I thought automatics were 4 gears + overdrive, not 3 gears + overdrive...I thought 4th gear was the same speed as the engine and overdrive made the wheels go faster than the engine, but maybe I'm mistaken.

What if..... you have FI......... 4.10's would not be the way to go then right????
If you are just talking about a street car, then gears + FI just adds into traction problems. Thats it.

It all depends. If you are a track guy, then you dont want to have to get into 5th gear on a 1/4 mile run. So if you are doing a 500hp car, then you may wanna try something less steep.

Gears are a definate improvement on a FI car even on the street. A set of drag radials and some suspension work is all it takes.
Even without the suspension work, so long asyou can run a drag radial tire you can get away with it. It might spin more off the line, but 2nd/3rd/4th will definatly be alot faster.

Well, my goal is to hit the highest speed in the 1/4 mile, not necessarily time because I know AWD cars have unfair advantages in launches...so being able to pull away after traction exists is my primary concern. This is not a daily driver, only for weekends or hitting up the track. I'm a noob on the track because I've only been twice with my '94 v6 firebird (and that was 2 years ago).
