Default quick question!

Recently i took out my ECU chip to see if the car would shift smoother. Also I replaced my aair filter (it was horibly dirty) Should I unplug my battery to my car and drain all the power out after doing this to reset the computer? My brother has an SRT-4 and says i need to before the changes will take place. Is this true?
All help greatly appreciated

It was a EEC-V Auto Logic 2001 chip. (came off the top of the computer box in the passenger side panel. I was trying to see if the hard shift into second would go away but it hasn't seemed to, but dont know if thats because I never unplugged the battery. So would it help if i unplugged it now after having a lot more airflow with the new filter and not having the chip in?
