Default cobra engine Swap??

hey guys, i was thinking about buying a 1998 cobra, and swapping the engine out for either a 03-04 cobra engine or putting a 5.4 modular engine in the compartment.(dont have the money for a 03 cobra) has anyone ever done this kind of swap/do you have any websites or help that you could offer
thanks for your time

ask amoosenamedhank about a 5.4 swap, someone else just did a terminator swap, can't remember his name...but i'll take your spare engine if you go through with this

I'm working on the 5.4 swap right now.... You have a really good block though and an engine with a lot of potential. If I were you I would just get forged pistons, rods and some head work done. Slap a blower on there and call it a day.

I'm not going to lie if I had started with a cobra I don't think I would be following the same project I am now. I would have just done what I mentioned above and put a turbo on it.

problem is i got to get rid of my fox right now to buy the new project, and im just trying to figure out where to start from, cause i like the power and style of the 03 cobra but dont have the pocket for it, but i also like the looks of the 98 so i figured i would combin them, do you guys know how much hp/torque roughly that an all forged internal stock 98 cobra block could handl

more than the internals could handle...unless you go billet. The block was made in Teksid, Italy in the same plant some supercar engines were created and the block can hold in excess of 900 hp

Just as much if not more then a stock 03/04 cobra engine. IMO it's not worth the money for the 03/04 engine if you're already starting with the best production aluminum block ford made with a forged crank already. For what you could buy an 03/04 cobra engine (most likely with 50k miles on it and it'll still be $6-8k) you could have bought your rods and pistons got the machine work done and bought a supercharger. If you were smart on your s/c buy you could probably have money left over to buy some more mods.

ok thanks, that should be more then enough for me, now what would you say about putting a stroker on the 4.6 block? should i keep it at 4.6 or should i bump it up? im planning on going turbo for this project so would it be better to have more ci/low end torque

i'd keep your engine you have right now, have it forged, you can buy new heads if you like, the 03 cobra heads will give you maximum flow if you have them ported, or you could just port your stock heads and just have a tad bit less flow(thats what i'd do just stick w/ your current heads) and then you could supercharge it and probably be in the 500rwhp+ range i would believe. transmission would probably need strenghtned up too, which doesn't cost much either.
