30-35mph max acceleration, 1st or 2nd gear?
I know the manual says don't go into 1st gear after 15mph but on a stock GT 1st gear usually tops out at 40mph., if you were going 30-35mph and wanted maximum acceleration do you guys drop it into 1st or keep it in 2nd? Dumb question I know but I was just wondering what yall do.

Downshifting into too low of a gear = bouncing off the rev limiter and bending valves, breaking your tranny etc. etc. downshift into 1st 1-15mph 2nd 16-35mph 3rd 36-45mph 4th 46-60mph

Well if I am going about 20-25mph the kick down cable will bring me into 1st gear.
See for yourself. Start out in first and look at your speedometer and your rpm's. See howmany mphyou cango in1st gear before the redline.
Is this for an automatic? I don't know anything about manual transmissions [&:]

And thanks for the feedback all, I think if I am going 30mph+ I will drop to 2nd and not 1st. I usually don't race but this Jetta was asking for it and I had it in 2nd and pulled from about 30mph and I beat him fairly easily but I definately could of had snappier acceleration if I went down 1 more gear, but you're right it's not worth the risk of damaging something.

You cant drop it into 3rd after 45? WTF? I love cruising the interstate @ 70, and drop it into 3rd and winding it out to pass someone. . And I have 4.10's

it is actually kind of hard to get it into 1st gear if your doing like over 15 unless you jam it in but 2nd gear is a hell of a gear!
