GEARS,SHIFT KIT

Hey, I'm new here and have a couple of questions. I have 96 Mustang GT AUTOMATIC that is bonestock except for a Flowmaster Catback. My question is I would like to add some more modifications but am unsure of what to do first. A friend of mine said that a shift kit would give me the most punch out of all bolt-ons (except for a supercharger), then another friend said the rear gears would give me the most punch. I don't know who to believe but would like to know if I did get rear gears which ones should I get. I do more street driving than the highway. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The gears will help a lot but its better to have the power behind them first. If you aren't really limited on funds I would say all you need to do to have your ride running just out right awsome is get the PI upgrade (heads and intake), LT headers, O/R Mid pipe, and a S/C.

If you are limited I would tell you to get the gears, and the other bolt ons such as what you see below in my signiture. Thats the best way to go.

A shift kit will really improve it also... along with a set of 4.30's! ;);)

Your gears will be the best bang for the buck. Im runing 4.10's now and the diference is night and day. If you can aford it, get your shift points recalibrated. Also Steeda underdrive pullies are awsome. hope that helps

I plan on getting heads, cams, etc. and a supercharger. But would like to get some gears. I have just recently bought some springs and bushings, etc. to help out my suspension. I know the 3.73's and 4.10's are the most popular. The thing is I don't want to get the 3.73's if the 4.10's will give me more kick and will only waste a little more gas.

Do not settle for 3.73's with an auto. Get 4.10's at least. I dont know about 4.30's but I trust these guys and they say there good

like jd said, a PI setup would be the best. Then gears, and a shift kit for the auto.

Dont recalibrate all the shift points and stuff. Just get a transgo or b&m shift kit or reprogramming kit. I dont know about the b&m , but the trans go still keeps your factory shift points. All it does is firm and crisp up all the shift points. You can also downshift into any gear you want on demand. No more waiting for 12-14 mph to get down into first! If you have any more questions about it pm me.

I never downshift b/c it's bad for the tranny, no?

and does anyone know of a chip/programmer that can recalibrate part-throttle shift points? Keep in mind this is a 1998 before the electronic speed cal and all that crap.

4.30's are too much for a 5 speed... but for an auto I would definetly get 4.30's because of the power loss through the fluid transfer in the tranny that has to be made up. He said he doesnt do much highway driving at all so 4.30's will be awsome.
