Default Gauge Problem

I have a 96 GT and the OEM water temp. and oil gauges are not working. The temp. is always bottomed out, which could be the sender or the gauge and the oil is stuck about the mid point (which leads me to believe it is the gauge). My question is how can I find out it is the gauge or the sender and would it be better to go with an aftermarket pillar pod with gauges, or try to replace the OEM cluster, then the mileage will be incorrect. In addition, who makes the A-pillar pods for the conv.

Default RE: Gauge Problem

Pull the power off your battery for a minute or so. Put it back on and turn your ignition to 'on'. Your computer should do a diagnotic and test the gauges. If they don't all go up to max and drop back to min, your gauges are F'd. If they do, it is probably a bad signal from the sender. Maybe not the sender itself though. I've had to reroute wires, especially from the oil pressure sender that hangsout the bottom of the car.
