Default Car running rich?

A guy I work with wanted to hear my exhaust yesterday, so he stands behind the car for a minute with me revving. Afterwards we are talking behind the car with it idling. He points out a small amount of smoke coming out of the tail pipes...and the fuel smell. I tell him the smell is because of the o/r pipe, he said the car was running rich.

The only thing reason I question is the little bit of smoke...it was about 50-55 degrees out, I'd think it was too warm for that to have been condensation.

My car is practically stock, just a BBK CAI, the X pipe and catback. Could it be running rich? If so why? Can it cause damage?

Is your check engine light on? Do you have MIL eliminators?

Mine also sounds a little rich to one of my car buddies...no smoke or anything, just has kind of a lumpy sound at times (I also have O/R mid pipe)

The smell is definitely from the O/R mid pipe. And the smoke is most likely from it being cold out. There is a chance you could be running rich, but with your mods, I doubt it.

Thats what I thought too. Yes my CEL is on because I don't have eliminators or a tune. That will be taken care of within the next week or two when I get my 4.10's.

--I should have mentioned the guy that said it drives a stock LS1 Vette. He can brag about being faster, but I've got him whooped in the sound department. He's jealous

Obviously with no cats it's going to reek of unburnt fuel. Tell him to keep sniffing those muffler pipes & he will keep feeling so smart.
