Default wrx vs 4.6 GT

I just checked on the website, and it says 300hp for the STi. Where's the descrepency? Is that an increase for '03?</P>

BTW...I was referring to the STi when I made my first post. I assumed all knew, because those other WRX's have no business throwing @$#% towards a Mustang GT. Sorry for not being clear.</P>

The two cars are close, however the race would depend on a couple of key factors... #1 what tranny is the WRX running, if its automatic then the stang has an advantage. #2 what kind of rubber is the stang running, if you have radials then while youre smoking the Subaru will be leaving you behind. #3 driving experience, enough said. Stock for stock with manual transmissions, the WRX is going to beat you. It has too much punch out of the gate and if they can keep the rpm's above 3000 (when the turbo winds up) you won't see their front end until its over. &lt;IMG alt=Cry border=0 onclick="AddSmileyIcon'smileys/smiley19.gif'" src=smileys/smiley19.gif&gt;</p>

My WRX has an automatic tranny which definitely takes away from the power and I know my 02 GT can beat it, and with my mods I could probably take one with a 5 speed but it would be close. Those cars are fast!! Maybe Ford should look into a flat 8 engine? &lt;IMG alt=Cool border=0 onclick="AddSmileyIcon'smileys/smiley16.gif'" src=smileys/smiley16.gif&gt;</p>

The 227 hp number for the WRX are at 6000 rpm and it does have quite a bit of high end push, the difference is great low end torque with the turbo.</p>
No slam intended here, just about every review I've read has said the WRX sucks miserably at high RPM's, including the STi. The WRX suffers from major driveline power loss, and obviously that's going to give it a huge disadvantage from a rolling race.

Basically, I'm trying to say - get your Mustang to hook up good and a stock WRX will be studying your tail lights.

OK i think u would be okay, i raced my uncles 2001 WRX in my 02 GT, start off yah maybe he can take u cause of the AWD(no tire spin),2nd my uncle was a lil ahead but after a WRX hits 60 it gets weak as f**k! 3rd and 4th u will pass it with no problem, i think ur 98 GT will be able to take it, but try to get a good start off 2,700 3,000 would be good, i smoked it by 3 car lengths, very slow at high speed! <IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0"> trust me they are fast off the line but u will pull on it, a 98 GT it would be a good race, the driver will determine the result as in any race.<edited><editID>2002 Stang GT</editID><editDate>37843.932037037</editDate></edited>

the sti would smoke you it has 300 hp and 300ft-lb. of torque and runs a 13.52 confortably. If your 98 mustang is stock against a wrx not sti you would still losse heads up. I raced one in my 2003 gt and one by a couple of car lengths. (he only launched at 3000 stupid) He should have launched at a hire rpm to stand a chance off the line. But after that I pulled away pretty easily. Any how the numbers are in this magazine popular mechanics august 2003 issue if you want to see the numbers for the wrx. maybee 250 at the wheels.

HE said he was racing a WRX not a WRXSti, so the bottum line is that u do have a chance, u just have to get a good launch and shift good, he will prbably have a good lead on u as i said, but ur car(v-8 4.6L) is much better than that 4 banger at high speeds, it will be a close race but lemme tellu do have a BIG chance of winning. I suggest u go to the track and race on the quarter mile, that would be the best thing to do, and dont listen to ppl who say o u will lose cause ive been told the same plenty of times and proved ppl wrong, so go on da track and race.<edited><editID>2002 Stang GT</editID><editDate>37844.1289814815</editDate></edited>

98s dont have as much hp as a newer gt. But with equal drivers the wrx would win flat out.

Give it a shot, like I said if you've got better rubber then you have a chance. Don't smoke em out of the block though. That WRX will get a big jump on you.</P>

The 250 hp quote came off a C&amp;D road test comparing the STi with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8. Also on that test they were running the STi in 13.1 - 13.6 quarter miles. But that could be because they are professional drivers after all.</P>

i recently ran an 02 or 03 in new orleans on almonaster. i have a 98 auto with some mods, namely pi headssuspension, exhaust, 3.73 gears, ported intake, 70mm tb and 80 maf with 30lbs injectors and transgo shift kit.. i wasn't impressed with the sti with 18x9 saleen wheels and some sticky nittos, i never saw much from him.
