Anyone with 3.90's?

RE: Anyone with 3.90's?
Don't forget a slighty modded LS1 is capable of a 12 second 1/4 mile.

I'm going to do more mods, probably eventually just bolt ons and maybe a small shot of nitrous as money allows. I'm also not trying to have the baddest car on the street, just one that can at least take a slightly modded Camaro...

I know that... With his larger wheels, and his tires he was getting better traction - that was my point. That's all.

Just because someone has 18" wheels doesn't mean the geomtry of the gears change! My 275/35/18's are the same size as your 275/40/17's. all within 5 or 6 rotations over a 1mile period. Depends on the tire manufacturer

I had 3.90's... I also have a stepbrother with 4.10's, and had a good friend with 3.73's... all with alike mods (not exactly the same but same basic bolt ons)
The 3.90vs the 3.73 in my experiance was... I had him out of the hole pretty decently... and kept accelerating on him, he had more top end in middle to high 4th gear.. I didn't race in 5th when I had my car...
the 3.90 vs the 4.10... I got taken out of the hole (barely - he also has 18" wheels vs my 275/40-17) - we basically matched gear for gear the whole way until I started pulling on him when we both hit 4th gear...
So.. in my experiance... 3.73 = more top end... 4.10 = more low end (obviously), I found 3.90 was a good low end gear, and pulled well in top end... I felt it was a good comprimise... I would also say - it depends on where you're goin with your car.. if your just going to do this, and that's it - i may even say to do 4.30's [8D]- u just need some good tires with it... but also remember you will need a speedo recal, or a tuner... because your speedo will be off - causing your milage to be off...

MY POINT WAS 275/35/18's are the exact same size in heighth and width and carry the same traction values as 275/40/17's! There aren't any differences at all!!!

he has 3xx size... I forget what the actual size is... it's in the 300 size though. My fault I didn't mention that. His car gets awesome traction with his tires that he had at the time....

RE: Anyone with 3.90's?
Oh, I know all bout how much the LS1 can beat me. Last weekend a stock SS KILLED me. But my buddy has an LT1 in a Sonoma, and he still has the stock gears (in the low 3.xx's) and I just want to be able to at least run with him til about 55 before he puts 3.90's in it.

i did not consider 3.90's because FRPP does not make them. the 3650 has a higher overdrive gear than earlier trannys so the 4.10's would be the best choice.
