clutch pedal has lots of play
Iwas out messing around cause the weather is awsome here for the first time in months and my clutch pedal went soft on me. I did a run to 70 from a dig and after i was done the pedal had about 2 inches of play before it would engage, this isnt the first time this has happened either. Its not harder to shift or anything and the funny thing is when i shut the car down the pedal gets back all its firmness. Are our clutches hydralic if so you think i have a leak? or you think the clutch is going? It feels like its grabing pretty good so i dunno.

well its kinda hard to tell due to the o/r prochamber but i dont smell any clutch. i can still break the tires shifting into 2nd so thats what makes me think the clutch is still holding up.

Well, with the clutch pedal going soft it sounds like air may be in the line. Either that, or a bad clutch. Check all your hoses and then bleed it. If you get no air out, time to shop for a clutch.

If you still have the stock linkage for the clutch, get under the dash and push up on the quadrant. It is a big white semi circle with teeth on it. Click it a tooth at a time and check the pedals feel. This took care of my slack until i swapped all the linkage out with an adjustable.

FYI, its impossible for our clutches to get air in the line since they are cable operated and not hydaulic. So my guess is that your clutch is going south.
Do this, put the car in 5th from a dead stop and pop the clutch. If it stalls right away then its good for now. You can also get up to about 50 and put it in 5th, then floor it. If the car accelerates without the rpms jumping, then its not slipping.

ive had this problem before on my 240sx that had a hydrolic clutch, i would just pump the clutch and i would get back the firmness. If i pump my clutch on the stang the same happens, i get back the firmness, which is kinda wierd for a cable operated clutch.hmmm what ever it is i hope she lasts awhile cause i am flat a$$ broke!

I had a similar problem after I did a short sprint like yours. All that ended up needing to be done was to adjust the clutch pedal. Its super easy....
Pull the pedal all the way up with your toes, push it to the floor, then let it spring back to position on its own. It explains it in the manual ifyou have it.
I may be way off here, but it worked for me.
