I would get a second opinion on what rear end you have in your car before you go through the heartache of switching it out. Because like already stated your car came with a 8.8 from Ford.

Check out this site it shows a pic of the difference between the 2. Yes it's a Cougar site but it's all the same for the most part. 7.5 and 8.8 Pics

Im almost certain that its a 7.5". before i took it into the shop i pulled the cover to see what was wrong with the rearend. im pretty sure that it looks like the 7.5 and not the 8.8. the shop told me that they could fix the spider gears for 90 bucks so at least i would be able to drive it around and wouldnt have to pay for more tows. i will take another look when i see it....i just wont get my hopes up

another thing...i got quoted 700-800 bucks for a used 8.8 from a junk yard

so my GT has a 7.5" rear end....i have a 8.8" carrier/ trak lok 4.10 gears and all new bearings/ seals.

i dont want a ****ty 7.5 what do i do???

how much of the 7.5" is the same/different as the 8.8"???

Brett

EDIT: some stupid mother F ucker who had the car before me must have swapped an 8.8 with a cheaper 7.5 which lead to me blowing up the spider gears and i bought replacement parts for the 8.8 so now i want to find an 8.8 to put back in.

I've seem them go for $450 on eBay. But that sounds about right for one out of a salvage yard. Another way to check is to pull the diff cover off clean it up and take it to the local auto parts store ask them to see a gasket for a 7.5 and an 8.8 match up the holes and there ya go.
