WHATS CHEAPER?

WHATS CHEAPER?
Ive been snooping the idea of gettin a forged motor in my car for my future blower i plan to get. my question is, is it cheaper to just build the motor up in my car? or purchase a new shortblock that is forged? also, do any places have like a "core" charge system? thanks for any info.

RE: WHATS CHEAPER?
It's cheaper to rebuild the motor yourself obviously. Forged bottom end parts are about $1300-1700 depending on where you buy from. A pre-assembled forged short block is $2300-2700 again depending on where you buy from. I'm sure some places have a core cost but that depends on the individual vendor. I can't say for sure here. If you've got the skills, tools, and time by all means BUILD IT YOURSELF! You'll save a heap of money that can go to other places.
(My suggestion is to build a shortblock from an 05 GT and forge it, then get 3v heads for dirt cheap from a junkyard and rework 'em)... At this point, in my opinion, the 3v motors are going to become so common and so cheap that building a 2v is going to be dumb.

RE: WHATS CHEAPER?
i got news - that 2700 motor is not half the motor the DIY build will be ... that motor is good to 600-700 crank while the internals of the DIY kit are good 1200. (not that other things wouldnt have to be done, the point being the kit build uses stronger parts)

RE: WHATS CHEAPER?
i dont have the skills to do it myself so id have to take the motor somewhere. i was just wondering if its cheaper to pull my motor out and strip it down, rather than buying a new one.
about the 05 3v motor- is that a direct swap? no new computer upgrades????

RE: WHATS CHEAPER?
and the 3v isnt totally selling me, tuning on the 2v and 4v is rock solid, alot of people know them. the 2v is more simple and as such cheaper, and more reliable by definition... however if your going to switch motors - the smart move is to build a 4v

RE: WHATS CHEAPER?
alright well the 3v idea is out.
about building my 2v motor, how much do you expect me to spend by taking my motor out and taking it somewhere to be built? also, would i have more power after it gets built? or will it be the same?
