My GM Certified Tech Changes it every 3k or 3 mo. with Mobil 1 synth.

If you are running a good synthetic blend it is dumb/pointless to change it so often enless you drive the **** out of your car.... Someone said they chage it every 3k miles just like directed? Well its not directing you to do this... if i remember right it says like 15k miles or twice a year.... You guys are only wasting time/money.

I run mobil 1 and i changed it at 3k miles and felt so dumb for wasting my money.... the oil looked as clear as when i first poured it in.

See herein lies the problem!!! Yes... it says you can go 5k or more... heck... Royal Purple says it lasts up to 10k miles! But it says to replace the filter every 3k! What good is your oil at 5k... 10k... if your filter is bad? NONE! You are just hurting the motor! Now as far as Im concerned, if Im gonna get under the car to change the filter I might as well change the oil to! But then I run MotorCraft oil.... it's like $2.50 a quart! It's what the cars come with from the factory. Mobil 1, Royal Purple, etc. are overrated! Using a high tech motor oil is not needed unless you are pulling high HP numbers!

Ive ran Mobil 1 oil/filter since I bought the car, but this time im switching to Royal Purple just for grins. I change mine every 3K or every spring, whichever comes first. I figure with puttinghundreds of dollars into my engine for mods, why skimp out on oil to see how long it will last...

I completely understand what you guys are saying.... But i think that you should change your oil according to your driving style.... I 95% of the time baby my gas pedal.. so less wear and tear on the engine so less need for often oil changes.. If i was someone who romped on it after every green light them im sure that i would change it more often.. but until my oil isnt so clear that it looks like brown water im not changing it so often.

Every 3K, contaminated oil = accelerated wear on the engine.

I have a 98gt and my manual states that you should change your oil every 3 months or 3000 miles.... THis may only apply to 96-98 models (may be different on 94-95 5.0's) . Also... My manual says to use 5w-30 oil... Not 20 like most of you use.. Like I said it may only be my hear of mustang...But regardless I use Mobile 1.. It seems pretty good.
