I installed the "already" programmed tune ... but in the settings under modify tune the spark advance says 0...does that mean its at 10 degrees? or does it mean that they bumped the timing up some and 0 means 0 from where they have the timing adjusted to now...

I would imagine "0" is 10 because thats the stock timing. If I were you I would advance it to 14 degrees.

Actually, that leads me to a question. On a stock SOHC 4.6, what is a safe advancement and what does it provide? Also, I guess putting the tuner to "4" would be 14?

the maximum timing you can get out of that tuner is 12 degrees.

so i can safely modify the tune that comes in the diablo tuner to 4.0???

On your car you can go to 15 to 16 degrees safely because your compression is a bit lower than the 2002+. On the 2002+ models you cant go over 14 degrees advanced without the light coming on and getting detonation.

Just to make sure I understand advancing the timing. I causes ignition of the fuel in the cylinder before compression is completed or at a more optimal time during compression - as opposed to stock time which would probably do it just as compression is completed. Basically, I am trying to understand the advantage to advancing the timing.

Also, I thought the tuner eliminated the need for the timing adjuster. Is it the limit of the eec or a limit of the tuner that only allows for x amount of timing advancing? No biggy for me at the moment since I am not very modded and don't have any power adders.

It does eliminate the need of the timing adjuster, but the tuner is limiting you to a max of 12 degrees.

so in that case if it only goes 12 deg i can just turn it up to the full advance then?
