Default CEL is on..

So my cel comes on yesterday after im changing my oil and oil filter.. so luckily i have an obd scanner, plug it in, it says fuel filter.. so i go buy one from an auto parts store and im ready to install it. i get under the car.. and the damn fuel filter is bent. not slightly bent, im talking like someone yanked the **** out of it. 1) what would cause this and 2) i couldnt get the damn thing off, any tips

yeah, but i couldnt for the life of me seperate that metal piece that slips over the filter

yea, i almost went crazy trying to use it too justpush the tool in asfar aspossibleand they will come apart. what you're actually doing is releasing the little locking tab inside the collar

one thing that also sort of scared me.. is my haynes manual said to relieve the fuel pressure by disconnecting the something in the truck (forgot the name) so i did.. and then to let the engine run until it shuts off. should i do this? i dont think this would be very good for the car, is there any other way to relieve the pressure in the fuel system

yeh they told you to hit the fuel shut off switch. never did that before usually just bare with the little bit of gas that comes out of the lines but yeh i broke 2 of the plastic line seperaters when i changed mine just be patient and make sure your doing it right as far as the fuel shut off switch i have no clue.
