auto mustang need help

auto mustang need help
I raced a 95' 5.0 (5 speed) from a dead stop and he pulled like 2 cars ahead until my car shifted to 3rd then I past him kinda fast. Then we went again from a 30 mile roll and he inmediately jumps 2 cars ahead [:@]until I hit like 80 I started to pass him again. It seems like my car takes forever to downshift and go. I have 4.10 gears and I haven't installed a tuner yet, will that help? I was actually waiting for my tuner until I had my prochamber because I don't want to reprogram the tuner everytime.I wanted to do all my mods first than add tuner. I'm Undecided if I want to get a shift kit firstor a tuner I know I need bothbut I can only do 1 at a time and eventually install a torque converter. Please help I need something to help my car act faster from a roll.

you can mess stuff up if u drive for a long time and floor the car after u put gears in and dont get it tuned...the computer and trans thinks it has 3.27 gears in it so it shifts at the points according to that gear ration, u NEED to get a tuner or get it tuned ASAP, i bought my o/r x and exhauts and got gears, then in the next few days i got the car tuned, its a totally diff car....get it tuned(tuner)
