I work at a detail shop and when we do an engine we use trash bags and cover up the battery, the alternator and any wiring you can see and then any wiring we spray down with WD-40 to repel the water. After that spray it with degreaser, scrub it down, then hose er down. If you have a shop vac you can reverse the hose and blow all the water out.

Wow, you guys get kung-fu on your procedure. I just take off my air filter, shove a rag into the open end of the CAI and go to town with a pressure washer. I do it just about every time I wash my car and I've never had an issue. I just make sure to fire her up and let her idle while I dry thy outside.
