Default stock gears vs 3.90s, my opinion on the difference

holy buckets! the car is alive now. i have to admit 4.10s would be better, but not by much, but 3.90s will work perfectly for my future plans and its good enough for now. imo i think the popular gearsets should be 3.90s or 4.30s. screw 3.73s. anyway i get out of the hole soooo much better now. it is 1000000 times easier to launch, maybe the control arms i put on help too. with stock gears(3.27) on launches you either spin or bog, never could master it.... you are a fool to run stock gears, period. and aperently i kept right the fu__ up with a cts-v tonight from a dig to 70~80 and im proud of my bullitt. going to woodward with my buds was the best thing after just breaking the gears in. it was the perfect night[sm=smiley14.gif]
as for gas milage, who the fu__ cares, the money paid for gas is well worth the enjoyment. mine is worse b\c i get my foot on it alot, but i can see gainage. freeway may be the same.
i highly recommend 3.90s! say no to 3.73s!

oh i also put the cobra lsd in. it is well worth the price($110), as long as you use the f-150 s -spring that comes in the kit. about the only way you can get the spring in is with a press of some sort. it has about 3+ times the holding power as the stock clutch pack. no one wheel peels for a loong time. i highly recommend the cobra lsd as well, it isnt even worth it to rebuild your lsd with the stock kit, imho. its available from modular depot or ford racing, get it!

Glad to here you're happy with the new gears
But, I don't understand 1 thing...How is launching easier?
I would assume it would be a little harder due to more spin in 1st with higher (lower) gears

im guessing the lower and upper control arms help alot for traction. but then again maybe i have to just try launching at a higher rpm mach1ne, believe me, launching is easier. this was my first time street racing and i had the heebby jeebbys, yet i nailed perfect launches mostly every time. i have to thank xxkazp3xx, his posts talking about 3.90s convinced me to buy the 3.90s in the first place.
djb, im all the way in saline!
