RE: damn dirt
I was scared the first time I washed it too...but it wasn't bad. I just throw some paper towels around the coil packs, battery and alternator. (I was at a carwash) I used the pressure washer on light pressure and sprayed it down, sprayed some mean green and scrubbed a little with a brush, then rinsed. Then I used some armor all on hoses and plastics. It made a big difference, and I could have spent more time on it.

Use a degreaser and garden hose.If you have a lot of gom under the hood you can use a pressure washer but be careful around wiring connections and spark plugs.Spark plugs boots should not allow water to short the spark to ground,if they do they need to be replaced.Finish the job with a misting of Armoral.

Before and after
I haven't washed the engine since, and that was about six months ago. It of course isn't as clean as it was when I first washed it, but it isn't nearly as bad as before.
