RE: DIY Ghetto CAI Project
I agreee the stock intake with a K&N or a K&N cone is just fine ..So we'll see what this 4" straight shot does cause that 3" smooth cromy junk didnt do jack!!
I dont anticipate anything with the 4" but lmao it sure is fun building it...

I did the same thing when I got my very first car ( 92 saturn sc2). It woked fine for a while, however after some time the heat of the engine started to warp the pipe at the round ends and the filter wouldn't seal right. Hope this doesn't happen to you, good luck and post pics when it's done.

I dont think this is anything I'll keep on the car but I'm dying to know if 4" tube is gonna make a diff.
I did however use a very very think PVC.It's a little over 1/4" in diameter thickness.

I have the K&N FIPK 2, which I got brand new for 154, shipping included, courtesy (spelling) of eBay.
I made a intake similar to that for me 00 Civic Si. It was fun and cheap.

Just so you realize, You can get SEWER pipe which is just a thinner version of PVC pipe and much lighter. You get more airflow for the size and less bulky, however I would def. reccomend putting heat tape over any kind of PVC tubing that goes under the hood. They reatain heat and will be less effective than you anticipate! I used 4" Sewer pipe for my Ram Air set-up. 4" PVC wouldn't even come close to fitting underneath the bumper! Also you can heat up sewer type PVC with a torch(be careful and keep the torch moving or you will burn and melt a hle in it) this will allow you to bend and mold it to any shape you like(going under that Strur tower brace???)

This is quite simply not so--the OEM intake IS a CAI and even with the snorkle can move entirely (and then some) enough air to keep an n/a 4.6L 2V perfectly happy--this said, I did trim the snorkle back a bit; it still protrudes into the wheel well, but only by 1/2" or so... Put in a K&N gauze pack if you want, but other than make the intake noisier it won't do anything that a OEM stlye filter won't--except not filter as well. The OEM paper filter has 3-4 times the surface area of the K&N, so the K&N would have to flow 300% to 400% better then the paper to just break even--it doesn't.----------------------------Oh I forgot--the K&N's do filter better as they clog up...

wow. the stock intake is not the same as a cai. the cai replaces the convoluted tubing so it flows way way better. pluse have you seen the opening that the stock air box pulls air through?

Like it or not, K&N filters are superior to the stock paper filter. I don't see any of the supercharger companys offering their kits with paper filters
