DIY Ghetto CAI Project

DIY Ghetto CAI Project
I seem to think that many CAI's do not do much and are not worth the money.
But I do think the filter portion of the CAI set ups ( Cone filter ) Do whats intended and for the money I think the best bang for the buck would be just adding a cone style filter instead of the expensive 200.00 and up cold air intake kits..
I had a 200.00 CAI kit and removed the flow tube portion due to the Shweep Shweep sound they sometimes produce. I left on the K&N Filter and hooked up the stock flow tube.
Mind you the mods on this car are
3:73 FR Gears
75mm Throttle body
After market lower plenumn
H- pipe no cats
Cat back 2.5 flowmater super 40 series
And a tune from a GMS Feugo ( Moving to SCT for more Custom tuning )
So I hit lowes today, purchased 5 feet of 4" inch pvc.
1- 4" Street elbow
2- 4" Heavy duty rubber couplings with clamps.
This is all trial and for a test . I drilled two 1/2 inch holes along side of the straight pvc close to the elbow for the hose hook ups ( IAC, crankcase breather ) Filed them down and inserted a 3" in length 1/2" stiff hose into each hole. Ran some silicone around them , let dry and ran some epoxy over that. Painted it and its sitting over night for dry time.
I'll hook this up and give you my opinions tomrrow

RE: DIY Ghetto CAI Project
wow. the stock intake is not the same as a cai. the cai replaces the convoluted tubing so it flows way way better. pluse have you seen the opening that the stock air box pulls air through?
