2004 Mach 1 Question about shifter
Hi folks!
I'm new here, I'm from New Jersey. I financed my 2001 v6 coupe when I was 18, paid it off. It's an automatic. I went to look at a 2004 used Mach 1 today, stick. I've driven my friend's GT all of 3 times, and I'm a quick learner, so I'm not entirely worried about the curve of learning to drive a manual. The odd part is, in the GT, when I'd shift into neutral, it's more towards the center. When I went to shift into neutral today in the Mach 1, it was kind of down towards the bottom left...when I asked the dealer, he said "it feels a bit notchy right?". I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense at all, I'm trying to describe it as best I can. But if anyone can tell from my description (as horrible as it is), is this normal? I thought neutral was in the center generally in all cars? Thanks a lot folks, much appreciated any input!
Kindest regards,
JG

RE: 2004 Mach 1 Question about shifter
Definately ask him if it has a short shifter. It more than likely does, because that is a very popular mod, and I know that MGW allows for a 360* handle, so it could have been set to a different angle. There are much more notchy than stock as well. I have an MGW, and I love it. You will not want to go back to stock after driving a short throw.

RE: 2004 Mach 1 Question about shifter
Hey guys,
Thank you SO much for all of your responses! It's great to know that this is such an active community. The GT was a 2002. Maybe it's just me and my lack of knowledge about stick. He did say "the gears are close" or "the gears are short" something along those lines. He shifted it into neutral just fine, so maybe it's just me. I'm going to see if my friend can come with me Friday to test it, because the dealer basically told me he didn't want me "learning" on his and screwing up the clutch or something after I explained I hadn't really driven stick more than trying it 3 times. It's SUCH a beautiful car though. My girlfriend wanted me to get the infiniti g35, she told me "another mustang?" and my response was "Hell Yeah!". I love these cars, truly I do. He's basically waiting on me to come in and say "i'll take it" and get financing approved. What I'm thinking basically of doing is if he'll be ok with it, sign the papers, ask him if I can come back later at night when there's no traffic, this way while I'm "winging it" I don't have the pressure of traffic. You guys really rock! Thanks again!

Fell in love man. Same as I did when I got my v6. Was only 18 back then, and my father said v8 would burn too much gas and be too expensive for me. So I worked my butt off since then, and got this one.
