Plus the FRPP shorties are like the worst ones, there basically just glorified manifolds, if you look at them side by side to any other reputable brand you;ll see what I mean.

L/Ts arn't always out of the budget. For example, if looks are not a concern there are hedman headers that are made for our cars for like $256 at summit which are cheaper than the BBK shorties. Looks to me isn't that important on headers because the way our engines sit in the car, it's pretty damn hard to see them any way. The only reason I went with shorty's is because I couldn't find a mid pipe with cats that fitted L/T's, and I need cats for the state inpection in TX. If not, I would of put these headers into my car.

One tip I can offer about putting the BBK shorties on, if your motor mount has the long stud on it with a nut, take that stud out on the driver side and replace with a regular bolt, takes less than a minute. When I tightened my driver side header down it went against that stud and didn't seat properly, and me not knowing, ended up having to replace the header gasket on the drivers side. Plus, it holds it out enough so that your steering linkage will not turn properly. Just one thing I screwed up on.

Really the only thing that shortie headers do is give a better exhaust note. The stock manifolds actually flow fairly well. Most people get shorties because of emmisions laws. If you can save for shorties then you can save for longtubes.

My theory is go long tubes or go home. I personally like the sound of the stock manifolds versus the shortys, maybe its just me. But for me to pay that kinda money to get em installed that 4-5 horsepower does not justify the time, effort and money. I would just KEEP saving and get the long tubes

last time i checked, cai/rai only give you modest gains....call it 5 horsepower so u can justify this, but not shorties for around the same price. hmm, id say take what you can get, if you gain 4 or 5 hp from shorties then OBVIOUSLY they are better than the stock manifolds, or you wouldnt net any gain.

But you also have to think that long tubes won't fit around the auto trans so that is about the only way you can go which sucks

Yes they will. Both SLP and Mac longtubes will fit with the Auto tranny. I have the SLP catted X pipe and am going with the SLP longtubes on my auto 2002 GT.

NeedStangSpeed: BBK makes a shorty Catted H pipe to match up to their longtubes, and SLP has a catted X pipe that is interchangeable between stock manifolds and their longtubes (there is a section that comes unbolted to fit with the longtubes.)
