Default Pinging on hard acceleration??

Just bought this 96 GT and the damn thing pings like mad on hard acceleration at higher RPM's. I have taken the silencer out of the air box installed a k&n filter and Flowmaster cat back exhaust. still no difference (not that, that stuff was going to fix it, she just needed that stuff). I checked the plugs and it doesn't have the AWSF-32PP's but it does have the Motorcraft updated plugs in it (forget what they are). Runs regular gas and tried the premium but that didn't help. Anyidea's??

We need a whole bunch more info for this one.

How many miles on your car?
What wt oil are you running?
When was last oil change?
How old is your fuel filter?
Do you have a custom tune?

Let’s start with that stuff, and we’ll work from there. Pinging can be a symptom of several problems. No matter the cause, it’s a BAD thing to let continue. It could be a simple fix, or your motor could be getting ready to take a dive. If you can avoid it, DON’T recreate the problem.

i have a 96 gt, and oddly i had a similar problem. i figured it out because the previous owner called me. i put 87 in there and it was pinging, then the next day the previous owner actually called me and told me to run 93, for that tank i poured half a bottle of lucas octane booster and it stopped pinging, and ever since i have ran premium and have had no pinging whatsoever. my plugs and everything else i checked prior were fine too... i know i posted a thread on it a couple weeks back and you could search for it and it might help your problem, because people responded before i got the call. good luck.

Mine just started this after my pi intake and cams install.....I have 89 octane in it and need to change my fuel filter. I'm hoping the filter will do it, but if nothing else 93 octane. Do our injectors get worn out after 100k miles??

Sounds like detonation. Try a tank of premium fuel & see if that helps

I a have 108K on the car, has 10w 30 oil in it and I it is almost due for an oil change. There are no custom tunes on the car, I bought it from a woman that did nothing to it as far as aftermarket stuff. I am going to fill'er up thios morning before I go to work and will try 92 octane.

the main this in our cars are suppose to be able to run on 87 so if nothing is done to bump up the timing this shouldnt be happening and it is, running 93 will stop it yes but doesnt solve the problem. here in ny 87 is 3.11 a gallon now and its not even really summer yet. there has to be a reason for this happening.
