do you ride the clutch when driving, have you held the car still on a hill using the clutch instead of the brakes, have you done a burnout with lots of clutch slipping, how do you get the car rolling, clutch out and go, or slowly ease the clutch out until fully engaged?

lots of little things can wear out a clutch. luckily, they are very easy to fix.

I'd check the fluid, see if it has metal in it, that will let you know if its a trans problem.
He has a 5spd not an auto..lol Yeah sounds like your clutch is bad! A whining noise is usually from a bad throwout bearing, but the slip is from the pressure plate! Has nothing to do with your fluids
He can still check the fluid in a manual.
