I live in Albany, NY and my Truck is a 2000 silverado and there isn't one speck of rust on the underside! I do wash thoroughly after each play session..lol My Mustang is a 97 and the previous owner kept it outside on the side of a main road in the winter time and there is very minimal surface rust on bolts and stuff. I mean it's really clean! Never was driven when salt was down(so he said) Whatever I haven't had any problems getting any bolts off yet. Haven't used penetrating oil not once! If the car has 60kmi chances are it was driven and most likely WASHED frequently.

Forgot to mention the big killer of cars for rust isn't just salt, but more of moisture! If you park on anything but pavement your chances of getting rust are greater. If you park on the grass all the time forget it! Everytime I see a car for sale on the side of the road on someones lawn it gets me everytime. I think to myself there's gotta be a ton of rust under there by know. Doesn't take long with the morning dew on that grass and at night!

Ohhh I dunno bout that one??? I would be very skeptical because it went from auction to auction. That makes me wonder if it had some kind of damage and a dealer fixed it up and flipped it! My boy does that kinda thing and makes good money. A carfax won't show that stuff either their too smart for that. They usually use small time body shops and pay with cash! I would check the paint lines over very well. Especialy where the pilliars bend over the roof and on the curve of the fenders. Paint is usually blended in those spots, but mainly over the pilliars! Check in the wheel wells too. Look at the motor and see if it's greasy on the exhaust manifold plate. Grease won't was away when they dousch the motors it usually gets burned on and stays there for quite a while! That would tell you if there was motor work done or replacement. That part gets touched at one time or another doing a swap!

Newer cars have really good undercoating and paint. I wouldnt worry to much about the rust issue unless you see scratches in the paint.

04 vehicle with 60K + miles @ $18,000

that doesn't sound like a good deal for a car 3 years old

just me $0.02
