Default cheap noise? straight pipes

I dont want to sound too nerdy but is welding in some straight tubing instead of mufflers legal? would it make a GT ridicullouslly loud? would you gain or loose torque and hp?

i am pretty sure it is illegal. But it would sound nasty. When i was putty my exhaust on, i started it up with just the headers and it sounded awesome!!!

You wouldn't pass emissions testing and might violate a noise ordinance or two

mufflers have nothing to do with emmisions, and I ran no muffs on my Tbird (4.6) and it wasn't loud at all but it sounded like bumble bee.

I don't see how it couldn't...what about cats? If you're running straights, then you won't have mufflers or cats[&:]Clips I have heard were ridiculously loud.

Before Iinstalled my headers and x-pipe I didnt have any mufflers, and it wasn't really that loud. It actually sounded good I thought, but it just wasn't loud enough, so thats why my car is strait-piped now!
