Default Loosing oil

I'm almost positive my car is loosing oil.[:@] There are no spots on the ground showing that it's leaking it's like the oil is disappearing or evaporating. It has been happening for about 6 months now.
I've been using Mobil 1 full synthetic for the last 2 oil changes but switched to Royal Purple less than 1 month ago and when I just checked it this morning and it was 1/2 quart low again.[]
Does any one have any suggestion as to what is going on?

This isn't the kiss of death but what are some remedies for the situation, heavier weight oil, oil additives or just make sure to keep xtra quarts of oil handy? The car just turned 30,000 miles.

Heavier weight won`t help much. It will still burn. That really sucks especially at only 30K miles.

My PCV hose popped off the passenger side valve cover, resulting in oil slowly leaking out all over the valve cover. Might just want to take a look at yours.

Are you letting the oil filter actually fill before checking the level after oil changes?

Take a look at the hose for the PCV valve. I just started getting a leak, the tell tale sign is coating of oil on the valve/cam covers. There is a TSB out for that. All it takes is a 10 cent hose clamp to fix. If you have less than 36k on the car its a warranty job.

Here's a link to the TSB and repair:

OzzDOA brings up a good point.

Next thing you should do is a compression test if you can be sure your car isn'tleaking oil.

If your car was loosing oil, I'd suggest you tighten it.Losing losing losing! [8D]Just ribbin' ya man.

How many miles had you driven (since the last oil change) when you found it was 1/2 qt. low? Also, a bad PCV valve can cause oil consumption...

I filled the oil filter as much as I could before attaching it and didn't check the level for a couple of days after that. I know when the level is less than full because the car at start up will run hard for about 10-20 seconds before idling normal.

The car has been driven less than 1,000 miles since the last oil change.
I willlook into the compression test and will take a look at the pcv valve.

Thanks for the info![&:]
