Default help; getting ready to trash my b&m ripper

I installed a ripper in my car about a year ago and its always been screwed up. The thing is loose in ever gear i put it in. when its engaged in any gear it moves around so much to the left and right it almost feels like its in neutral. I made sure i put that black thing back on the bottom **** where it goes into the tranmission. Its shifts fine but its really starting to bother me because sometimes ill miss gears because its so loose. I took it to a mechanic to see if I installed it right and he took it all apart and reinstalled it and it made no difference at all. I am thinking about taking it out and getting the regular b&m shifter (one for like 169.00) because i had that kind in my 96 GT and it worked great. I was just wondering if any of you guys could think of anything for me to check, or if its something to with the H pattern in the actual transmission itself being worn or rounded out causing it to be so loose when its engaged in gear. Because id hate to buy a whole nother shifter and have it maybe do the same damn thing
thanks

Don't take offense, but I never have been a fan of b&m shifters. Had one years back in another stang and hated it. I have a tri ax now and love it. I know you don't want to spend that extra change, but i would try something else. I hope you're not having tranny problems like you're possible thinking. Good luck, and if you do decide to to switch, go with something else besides b&m

ok, but do you think putting in another shifter would solve the problem
or does it sound more like a transmission thing

I got my money on the shifter based on how you are discribing the problem.

I have never had any problems with B&M shifters. You may have gotten a defective one. I doubt they will do anything for you if it has been having this problem since you installed it.
