C is for cold, H is for Hot I believe??? Mine seems to drop to NULL quite often as well. I'm thinking you should have it up to the middle of the H side after a 20 min ride. Least that's where I keep it.

Drive it around for 30 minutes or so.
Park the car on a level spot and don't turn the car off.
Move the lever through all the gears and then back to park.

Check the fluid with the car idling and it should be close to the H (hot).
If not, add a LITTLE at a time, and check it again.

As long as it is at or near the H when the car is fully warmed up, you should be fine.
