Default How to find exhaust leak...

Hi everyone, I put on my o/r h pipe and maybe I'm just paranoid, but I think I have a leak. Will this affect my performance? What is the best wayto find a leak? I think it is on my driver side by the header. Thanks for the tips.

a leak depending on how big should not affect ur performance. i have an exhaust leak from puttin on my o/r h pipe as well. the best way, if its at the headers, is to unbolt them and bolt them back up again evenly. like left bolt 2 turns then right bolt 2 turns and on and on.

The driver side header seems to be a common leak. But to find a leak, look for condensatioin or moisture near any connections where the pipes meet up. Or you can put a towel under the connections and see If you get any moisture on it. That would indicate an exhaust leak. This is what my tuner told me. Then when my car was in the air, you could see the water dripping (indicating a leak), but it was after the muffler so It didn't matter or affect anythnig.

But I also have a major one leaking from the passenger side manifolds too. What does your sound like? Is it a ticking noise?..

you should be able to hear a exhaust leak, have someone give it a light rev while your head is down under the car. you could also start it up and put your hand around the connections and feel for a leak. or like said above look for condinsation leaks.

is it normal to smell pretty strong exhaust fumes with an o/r mid? or is that caused by a leak?

Yes. It will make your exhaust smell like an old 60's muscle car. The o/r pipe doesn't have the cats to take out certain contaminants therefore making it more smelly. I, personally, love the way it smells. A strong exhaust smell could also be indicative of a rich a/f condition.

you know you have a bad leak because you will hear a ticking/puffing noise when you are next to a wall or car and floor the car in like 4th or 5th while going slow
