I have a auto 98 GT, and when I lay on the throttle, of course the car pushes all of the 225 HP to the wheels (yeah I know weak), but when I let off, there is a loud screech sound. Is this normal ? My parents 03 GT did it too.....is that normal for all mustangs or was there something wrong with them both ?

screech as in the tranny whinding down or screech as in bad brakes?

well, when I lay off of the throttle its like a screech sound comes from the engine, kind of like something in the engine needs to be oiled or something.

Well I know when I let off my gas you can hear the tranny whinding down. Thats always been there on mine but you have to be pretty far up in the RPM's when you let off the gas for it to be really noticable.

well I dont know, it only makes that sound when I hit the pedal to the floor, and then let off after it goes through all the gears

Do you have the stock rearend?

Check your belt first. Check the tension and see if it's glazed over, sounds like a belt slipping to me.

GOD DAMMIT!!! I did it again. I thought you said when you lay off the gas and thats what I was getting at by the whining of the tranny. MY B! Probably is the belt, man. Sorry about that. A quick fix for this until you can get a new belt is take a peice of bath soap and hold it under the belt while the engine is at idle and let it grease it up. It will stop squealing for about three to five days at a time... IF the belt is the problem.

Belt dressing sounds like a better idea than soap though...heh far less chance of chopping off a finger or 5...haha

LOL Well its a trick my dad taught me and I used it many times till I could afford a new belt. LOL I still have all 11 fingers.
