So I am looking at droping the tranny to change the throw out bearing, because I think it is the source of my sqeeking/ticking noise. The clutch is not that old I just think that the guy who owned the car before me didn't replace the TOB when he changed the clutch to a king cobra. I have never done it before, so I am just wondering what I am in for. I have the haynes manuel, which seems to cover it pretty well. I have a couple of questions tho:

Will I need any specialty tools (I am already planning on picking up a torque wrench)?
Should I also replace the pilot bearing?
Anything else I should know?

You will need an assortment of extentions, tranny fluid, a jack with a piece of wood (if you dont have a tranny jack) and a friend to help you hold the tranny stable. If you change out the pilot bearing you will need a special tool to pull it out of the crank.

if you don't have the tool to pull the pilot bearing, you can pack it with grease and use a dowel to drive it out

ok, thanks. Also, would there be any difference in the $40 bearing from ford or the $20 bearing from kragen?

I know I should have a torque wrench but is it really neccesary for this job?

Necessary? No. Intelligent? Yes. You should never mess with anything like an engine or transmission without torquing the bolts back down to the proper values without tightening them too much. Just go get a good torque wrench and start using it whenever you do anything on your car.

A swivel socket and a variety of extensions are really helpful for getting at the trans bolts and the h pipe bolts. When we were changing my clutch, we just disconected the h from the catback and pulled the trans back and let it sit on the h. We were using a lift so it was a lot easier, but it wasnt too bad anyway.
