The cobra is more of a top end car due to it's power band. 4.10's will help but the 4.30's are great, they get to the power band alot quicker. In my 95 GT with some bolt ons and 3.73 gears, raced my friends 96 Cobra CAI, control arms and stock gears. We raced from a 30mph and i got about 4-5 car lengths on him, by 70 though he was catching up pretty damn fast and i stopped at 80mph. If we would have kept going, he would have blown past me at probably 85-90 and would have put alot of lengths on me..
When we both took off at 30mph, i was pretty much in my power band and the gears help, he had to get up to his powerband and gears would of helped him alot.

I used to rape 98 cobras (stock) in my GT before it died and when i raced 05+ GTs it was a drivers race. 05 hands down. It just has a longer and better torque band not to mention the gearing and suspension.

Yeah.. the 96-98 cobras are bascially the same as a 99+ GT stock for stock man... now start moding it and it will make up for it in a HURRY.. they respond much better... but the problem is your torque curve in the car is just goofy... and the HP comes on late.... then just dumps down in a hurry. Its a weird power band and thats what kills those cars.

Gears will help a bunch.. gears, sticky tires, cai, and weld in's put mine into the 13.7 range.

Not many of either car still stock and willing to race. You could get old guys to go for it though....The mod bug is normally gonna hit you theinstant you take her home, then the research starts. Next you put all your extra jack in your car. Back to topic; it's a driver's race IMHO

the torque curve on a 05 gt is beautiful its powerful and flat, its like 280-290 the whole way through the power band. if the 05 gt is stick hands down the gt will win, but if its auto its a drivers race. this i kno cause i have been in this race b4

the 96-98 cobra gains most of its hp higher in the rpm, if the cobra is geared it should win

Stock on Stock the GT will win because i watched it happen about 6 times friday night. Two 5 speeds, Two good drivers, and the GT won......6 times.

Id say the GT. Like mentioned those cars suffer from a really acquard powerband. My neighbor has a 96 and he said 4.10s didnt do nothin for the car so he has 4.56s in it and it really woke it up. Not to mention a blower on it.

seeing as ive raced a few of the new GTs i can safely say that with gears my car is easily faster. Stock vs Stock though id prolly say the 05 gt since it has a better gear ratio and torque curve.

Whoever says 4.10s wont wake up a sn95 cobra doesnt know what they are talking about. That being said the 4.56 is the ultimate NA gear.
