Default fuel filter replacement

Let me start off by saying it has been long overdue. Could not replacing my fuel filter over a long period of time cause the car to miss? It doesn't sputter or anything often, but it is very evident at idle. Wide open, the car seems fine. Any suggestions?

I'd say thats a probable cause. The clogged filter could restrict the fuel needed for the cylinders. I'm no expert, but i'd say so.

yes it could cause a slight miss, even stalling. because inadequet fuel is getting to your engine...i would do it asap...you will notice a diffrence..also in MPG

I thought it could be the root of the problem. For example,if I downshift from 5th to 4th and drive like that for a few minutes then give it hard gas, it misses then picks back up.

10 year old car syndrome. Change the filter if it makes you feel better, but a fuel filter either works, or it doesn't work. And yours obviously works.

I did plugs about 50,000 miles ago. I had my intake manifold replaced a month ago. When I got it back, it was missing like crazy. We found out there was a problem with the plug wires. I put Motorcraft back on and it has been running fine until now.

I thought it had to be replaced every so many miles. I just have never thought about it. The car usually runs great.

its recommended you change your fuel filter every 30,000 miles.....also if it was kind of missing...check your plugs to see if they fouled out or anything like that...just to make sure they are ok ....but ya do the filter...check the plugs...

I am gonna try to get the fuel filter in Thursday morning and I'll check the plugs too. A few weeks ago, it was missing bad, so I made sure all the wires were on tight and it went away, but now it's back. I'll definitely let you know if it solves my problem.
