Default Where to start with exhaust?

I'm wondering what will give me better gains, high flow catted H with stock cat back or american thunder flowmaster catback with stock midpipe? Unfortunitly, here in NY, they're really starting to clamp down with all the emissions business, so I have to get a catted midpipe. I really only have like $300 to spend now, so it's kind of either one or the other as far as midpipe or CB. I think I want an H over an X for sound reasons, and prefer the flowmaster CB over others because of price and I like the sound. So, if you had the $300 to spend, which would you start with?

I'd say go with the cat back first.

If your looking for the best performance, I'd get the mid-pipe and choose a better cat-back than a baffled system.

get a catback u would probably hear and feel the difference more than an H or X pipe. Also get big exhaust tips, they will make ur stang look mean[sm=icon_sneaky.gif]

Yea, big tips are cool, but I think they'd look retarded on my year mustang. On the newer body style like yours, the tips are kind of hidden for the most part, so what you can see of them looks sweet. But on my '96, you can basically see the entire tip from the rear wheel back, so it looks gay when you have a 3.5" tip and see it reduced to 2.5" pipe, haha, I think anyways...Magnaflow does that, they have 2.5" piping throughout with like the last foot which is a stainless 3.5" tip and it would look like crap on my car.

ya your right. u would probably want to go for smaller tips. I think that if you want an exhaust go for the flowmaster catback cuz if ur worried about admission standards replacing your H pipe even messig with your cats could lessen your chances of a clean inspection. On my stock H pipe that I removed I had a total of 6 cats. U might have some difficulty in passing inspection with high flow cats, it just depends on how tight NY's emition standards are.
