TECH: Oil pressure restriction! No oil to heads! HELP!!!
I did a PI swap and now the passenger side head is tickingreal loud. I have 90 psi of oil pressure and what seemed to be dry lifters only on the passenger side head. I took the valve cover off today and there is some oil up there, but not much. I turned it over a couple times and there wasn't any oil getting to the top. Oil is supposed to pump through the lifters and when the cam pushes the rocker arm down, it's supposed to push the oil out of the lifter which lubricates the cam. All of the lifters looked to be bottomed out reguardless of cam position and pressure on the rocker arms. I don't think they're pumping up. I think that there's a restriction somewhere causing the dry lifters not to pump, my terrible loss in power, and the 90 psi of oil pressure. Has anyone come across this? Could I have put the head gaskets on the wrong way? They were new OE right from Ford. The driver's side is fine, just the passenger side is having the problem. Any other ideas??? Thanks guys...

i had the same problem on my PI swap i'd say get a whole new set of valve lash adjusters or lifters, sounds like you have valve tapping and the lifter isnt charging with oil

Stupid question but did you make sure you put the passenger head gasket in correctly? (correct side up). Don't know specifically about the 4.6 but on many engines you can put a head gasekt in upside down and it will fit fine (but the passage ways won't line up correctly)

Honestly, I can't remember. I figured it would only fit one way. I guess I was wrong. [:@]... I'll have to pull the damn head off again!!! [:@] [:@] [:@] [:@] [:@]

Oil on one side, no oil on the other and your pressure reads good? That's all I can think of. That or something fell/is blocking the oil passageways in which case you'll still need to remove the head.

hmmm... not really... maybe take off the timing cover and look down the line where the oil goes into the valve lash adjuster... maybe its clogged with some cam lube or something thick?
