Default putting 4.6L in 64 1/2 mustang

I've got a 64 1/2 with an auto and 289 that I just don't like. I need a stick. I could get the cobra heads and intake with a custom exhaust, but that's still not enough power. I'm thinking of putting a 4.6L and trans in instead. Has anyone around here done this and what particularly peculiar issues did you run into?

I guess I'm just wondering if you had any really really bad problems with the firewall and getting the shifter in the right location and what you did to overcome that.

What about a 351,or a 429 CI???These would probably be a better choice.

Or a built 5.0 for that matter...to be honest, I much rather have a pushrod engine than the SOHC or DOHC 4.6 mill. I'm actually saving my pennies to sell off my '96 for a '94-'95 GT with the 5.0, the 4.6's are just too expensive to get equivelent performance in my opinion, unless you just slap a s/c on it and call it a done deal.

You would get mileage out of the MOD motor.... Not like it matters though. It would be cool to see one in an old schooler, casue they all have built pushroders in them... My two cents = BE Different!

i agree why do something 600 people have done already GO MOD and if you can squeeze it i think the coolest would be a 03 or 04 plant in there with a 6 six speed backed to it ----youd be a PIMP and if you can swing that you can make it fir and work in there it wont be that hard just time and patience consuming--- id look into it atleast

um, I'm looking at doing it, but I really hate to take a mint 289 and auto out just to see if the new one will fit. That's really what I'm getting at is how bad the firewall and fitment issues are going to be.

I was really thinking about the 4.6L cobra and I'm sure that 300+ is really going to be more than enough for this deal. I do like the 2000-03 with the 390/385 blown 4.6L, but I don't think the price difference could really be justified for this application.
