New 4.6'er, need a few Q's answered please..

OK, I just picked up a stock 96 GT auto vert with flowmasters and I have some questions....

1. Tuner- What can I expect from a tuner? AND more importantly- is it woth the $300 bones?

2. Mods, cheap ones that make a differance and mildly more expensive ones.
(car has 77k and I really don't wanna tear it down and put a procharger or turbos etc...)

3. I know that CAI's don't do squat on v6's, but do they make a difference on 8's?

4. I have a buddy with a G35 Infinity (auto), I raced him from a stoplight to 95mph, I expected to get completely smoked, well he got me by 1/2 a car. And"yes" he knows how to drive, I just my question is the G35 THAT slow, or is my GT a bit faster than I thought?

A tuner will get you maybe 10rwhp, more than likely 5. I wouldn't say that it's necessary yet, wait till you get more mods.
Gears are gonna be your best bang for the buck.
CAI's don't do much for any car.

i really thought he would smoke me, but I was pleasantly surprised. I wonder what I would have to do to beat him.
He is such a snob..

g35's are heavy.

1. On an auto, I would recommend buying a tuner to firm up the shift points, it will make a world of a difference in our auto tranny.
2. I would first like to recommend full length subframe connectors, they are great at what they do, minimize interior creaks and tie your front and rear together. Next would be a PI swap. Then it would be dependent on what your looking for, most people get gears, 3.55 for a roots style blower, 3.73 for centri/turbo, and 4.1+ for n/a or if your planning on running drag radials.
3. CAI's gains are minimal on our cars as our weakpoint is in the heads, you'll see maybe 3 rwhp with a good CAI. I bought my CAI to clear out a little room in the engine compartment for my HID ballasts. Not much performance there.
4. G35's are porkier than we are, they have a better top end but suffer from low end torque... Next time make sure your o/d is off, tc, if you have it, is off, and try to launch the car. You should fair a bit better than your last run.

i wouldn't call a low 14, high 13 car slow. they can easily take a new edge GT. you guys just beat the drivers, not the cars.

RE: New 4.6'er, need a few Q's answered please..

I just picked up this 96, my 95 v6 just sold yesterday. The 96 is a GT vert with 77k, auto. Oh and it's white, I will change my sig and pics when I get a min. Yes, mine has the 3 rounded tails not the slots like my 95 did.

Oh and it has the Cobra 17's on it, other than that its pretty stock.
