Default Newbie to the thread with a Squeak...Please HELP!

Hi all, just found this forum, loving it so far, hope to get some great use out of it. I have a 96 GT Vert 5-Spd. List of mods will come soon. Anyways... I have developed a squeak from the rear end every time that the i hit a bump with my rear. I have had the car up in the air twice now, but it escapes me... What it is not: Exhaust system, body, shocks/swaybar/springs(all brand new last year)... I cannot seem to get the car to re-create the sound when its not on the road, creating a distinct disadvantage... Any suggections from some of you old pros out there would be great!

Thanks,

Bren

Did you put it in the air on a drive on rack or an alignment rack or a chassis lift? If you can use a drive on lift, it'll be easier to check because the suspension will settle and you can see how everything looks while on the road. Sounds like exhaust is rattling on something.

I don't have access to a drive on lift until next week... I have been lifting it with jackstandson the frame for the moment. I was able to play with the exhaust pretty well though and I am pretty sure thats not it. Thanks so much for the quick reply though!

I had a similar squeek a while ago. It was my e brake cable clips. I put some grease on them and it went away. Also check your e brake cables as well to make sure they aren`t rubbing on the frame.

Ok, i will definitely check the clips/cable... The more and more I play with it, the worse it seems to be getting... Now, when I drove to work this morning on a road they had just milled to prep for re paving, it sounding like a bird chirping from my rear end... very annoying... When I got back on smooth pavement, nothingness....

Ok, I hate to bring this back after its been dead for a month, But I have some new and interesting developments... I isolated the problem to the rear brakes! Anyways, I replaced the rear pads, becasue the old pads didn't have the metal anti-chatter bracketts on them...I also applied some anti squeak brake grease to the backs of the pads when I did this. Now, about 200 miles later, as the grease is wearing off, the squeak is starting to come back! If I pull up a click or two on the parking brake though while I'm driving and hitting the bumps, it goes away! Any ideas on what I can do here? I am at a loss!

Thanks,

Bren
