They both look like 8.8's. And unless someone turned your car into a serious drag machine earlier in its life (highly doubtful) you do not have a 9" rear end. The other just looks like it came out of a truck but just as easily could be out of a Mustang. Those big brackets are just wherecontrol arms bolt on.

ok, well im asking because a shop told me that my 8.8" 4.10s and my traklok(which i purchased from american muscle and a ford dealership) wont fit the axle in my mustang. they said it was a 7.5

i know the second is not a 9" i know what they look like, but what i think may have happened is someone swapped in a 7.5 to save money cuz they blew it up. the second was from a junkyard and the brackets look somewhat similar to whats in the stang but there seems to be some extra **** on it which is making say its from something else...a truck like you said perhaps.

ah you edited your post on me lol. look at those flat brackets, they look like leaf spring perches, and there looks to be coil spring cups on the axle, not where the control arms should be.

oh yea and the azle is upsidedown on the gorund so you can barely see the spring cups im tlaking about

The first one is definitely a 7.5 and the second is an 8.8

http://www.miracerros.com/mustang/axle.htm

will tell you the difference between the 7.5 and 8.8

That second axle looks like it's out of an older mustang that used quad-shocks. Those brackets are the quad mounts. They were used before lower control arms became standard.
