The E-brake sticking is actually a problem that is a free recall. Just take it into a Ford dealer (Make an apt first, give them your VIN on the phone to verify the free part change) then go in there and have it done. It was a large safty issue with the car rolling away and keeping the brake engaged while driving thus lowering brake life.

For the grinding, everyone else got it.

PS have ford check your car for any other recalls that may need to be performed.

Yes, if it is a recall. Totally free.

Is it worth buying the Royal PurpleSyncromax? I mean, if its not going to fix the 5th gear grind, i dont think i will spend the money for the fluid.

Recalls aren't free forever. They are usually only active for a certain amount of time & if the work isn't done in the allotted time, you are on your own & need to cough up the cash.

Wick001, if your car is grinding going into 5th gear, odds are the synchro is damaged. IMO, I wouldn't change the fluid. I would make sure the fluid levels aren't low & just top it off. It sounds crazy, but many people who never change the tranny fluid & finally do after excessive mileage - suffer failures immediately after. I would just stay out of 5th gear & drive it until you can afford to have the transmission rebuilt.

Since you likely can't verify when any flushes were done, just leave it be...
