98 GT... which should I get, what should I do?
Hey guys,
I'm (obviously) new here, and I'm looking at getting one of the following: 98 GT with 32k miles (base model; manual windows and locks; i think it has a/c, but not sure) for $7000 98 GT with 82k miles (power everything, and flowmasters) for $6000 Any recommendations on which I should get? And also, what's the easiest/cheapest way to bump either of these cars over 300bhp? Thanks in advance, Humjaba |
RE: 98 GT... which should I get, what should I do?
Most people here will tell you a goal of over 300bhp on a non-pi is hard and expensive to reach (easiest way is FI). If you are really concerned about the power and still want a mustang try looking into a 99 which began the pi mustangs which have about 30-40 more bhp than the 98 and could more reasonably attain 300bhp (still not easily).
I love my 98 gtthey are still great cars... If you want to try that route Id go with the stang with 32k miles as long as its a stick. |

go with a 94 or a 95...you'll be better off

94-95 are turds. That little 5.0 wasnt meant for the heavy SN-95 body.
Id go for the lower mileage car. Supercharger or nitrous and boltons is the easiest way to get that power. |

wanna race me?
The sn95 is only 300 pounds heavier then the foxes. Get your facts straight They respond just to well as mods as the foxes. Stock they are slow and so our 96-98 but there is so much more potential for a 5.0 compared to a 4.6 Not to mention everything is cheaper to do on the 5.0 |
RE: 98 GT... which should I get, what should I do?
Thanks for the quick responses!
No need to start a 5.0 vs 4.6 war. And I didnt realize it wasso difficult to get that extra 80hp... shows how much I know, eh? Maybe I will start looking for 99+ as well.I'm shying away from forced induction because it's expensive, and I'm pretty new to car stuff so I don't want to destroy anything, heh. And nitrous is a no-go for me. But hey, as long as I'm here, what are some good bang-for-buck superchargers for the 98 'Stang? I've looked at Kenne Bell kitsand they're ~$5000... The reason I ask is because (if I were to buy one of these) I dont want to be whooped on by a Z28 =P Thanks again Humjaba |
RE: 98 GT... which should I get, what should I do?
I would go with the lower mileage one if its a stick. Unless you do some serious mods, a Z28 will always own you. Even the 93-97 LT1. Now if you do the pi swap, you will be able to beat a LT1.
