Is the HP rating on the 4.6L GT convertible different than the HP rating on a 4.6L GT coupe? A friend of mine bought a '01 GT coupe and I just bought an '03 GT convertible and when we ran a VIN search on both from the Ford Fleet site it listed the '01 coupe at 260hp and my '03 converible at only 225hp. Can this be correct? Both cars are 4.6L GT's and mine is newer so if anything I though mine car would have a higher rating. If this is correct what is the difference? Can I increase my HP to the 260hp rating and if so how?

99 to 04 gt mustangs all have 260 from the factory. They may have made a mistake when they entered the information for your vin in the computer.

Don't get discouraged if you race your friend and loose. Your vert weighs more than his coupe so stock for stock you have a good chance of loosing.

I did it twice on the following usiung the attached link. I thought is was strange because I had'nt heard of any HP difference before between the two models. Do things like cold air intakes and Jet chips or modules really improve performance enough to warrent the cost? I would like to do some mild upgrades does to give the car a little extra snap.

I assure you a 2001 gt covertable is 260 at the flywheel, the last year theGT was rated at 225 was 98, I had one back then. There a couple hundred pounds weight difference between the vert and coup. There's subframe connectors on mine from the factory. You'll loss to the coup.Put in some gears and exhaust for your first mods. Depending on what kind of money you have to spend, you can make up the difference very quickly. PLus, gotta love the top down, worth the loss, woman love the vert

They should both be rated at 260hp at the flywheel. 225 is about what a new edge GT should push to the wheels, shouldnt matter if its a coupe or vert.

I just did the same VIN check on the Ford fleet site for two other GT 4.6L convertible VIN's I grabed off Auto Trader and both came up with only 225hp so with mine that makes three convertibles in a row rated at 225hp yet I tried a second coupe in the same year and agian it came back at 260hp. I don't know if this makes a difference but arrording to a CarFax report my car was purchased in Canada and didint come state side until a year or so after that. Could cars build for Canada have less power? See link below of a convertible I ran from AutoTrader.

Well that's good news that there is no difference between the coupe and convertible as far as usable power. I am assuming then that the 300hp rating of the '05-'07 is rear wheel HP as well? Is so that a considerable increase over my '03 with 225hp. I'm not complaining I have not owned a Mustang in 20 years but had several ('65 2+2 W/289hp 3 speed, '67 W/302 Auto and a '68W/302 Auto) when I was much younger. I have owned 3 Miata's and still have 1 which my wife and I participate in local club rides and events. We loveit and theyare a blast to drive but have never seen anything even close to 170hp at the rear wheels let alone 225hp
