Default Car wont start

Hey all, I got a 97Cobra and need a hand. Car wont start. When I turn the key I hear 1 click and then its like the motor is siezed (no way it is though) I hope . I have replaced the solonoid and starter motor. Tested the clutch sensor and it works. Still no turn over. There is also something burning , hehe. I noticed some smoke coming from the center console by the emerg. brake. I looked underneat and there is some smoke under there. Cant figure out where it is coming from though. Havent laid under there while wife tries to start, gotta work up the ***** for that if no one has any ideas.
Thanks for looking.

check the battery, get another one out of a car and see if it starts. If that's no good, check the fuse located by the drivers side strut tower, black box, its in the manual. Still no good, you can test to see if the wires bad by directly connecting the starter to the battery...just enough to get it turn it over. That would be the normal symptoms of the "click" sound....can't help you with the smoke if its related, does it have any smell to it? like burning oil or antifreeze or more of a burning clutch smell?

Battery checks out OK. Fuses are OK. Need to check the wire, just dont make sense that a wire would go bad out of the blue. I hear it trying to turn the starter (i assume). I checked if there was oil for the hell of it You would almost think the car is siezed. Might have to turn this one over to a tow truck

check the ground cable to the block/framefrom the battery, i have seen this same symptom on plenty of mustangs and it was the battery ground cable.

OK battery looks fine. How should I test the ground? It looks clean, etc... No idea how to crank the motor by hand, im a little worried its siezed, although I dont know how it could be. But that would cause my starter to burn up... Damn thing only has 53k on it, and I just drove it 5 mins before this happened.

take the cable off the battery, then put a volt meter on it and a part of bare metal somewhere on the body and it will show continuety (spelling?)
